Hair has always been a focal point for women in hip-hop; whether it’s icons like Lil Kim creating a legacy with her coloured wigs, (looks that have been copied for decades, now – notably by Beyoncé for Halloween in 2017), or Nicki Minaj rapping about how she “Got Malaysian, got that yaki, that wavy Brazilian” (Flawless, 2014) and going viral for her 40-inch tresses. Whether it’s for creative expression, or simply a status symbol, rappers have used wigs, braids and natural hair to convey meaning and create colourful characters for themselves.

50 shades of Red
From Ariel inspired luscious fiery locks to warm copper tones, this autumn is all about the reds. What is undeniably great is that with so many different tones, there’s a perfect red hue for everyone. If you’re not ready to go all in just yet, consider adding some depth with auburn highlights while still maintaining your current hair color, or pull off a KKW with the help of our new the fall line.
For as long as we can remember straight and long cascading locks have been considered the epitome of beauty and success. In desire first and foremost to blend in and fit the very narrow standards of what’s considered desirable, women around the world have been straightening their curls or wearing wigs. Bias against afro hair had been present in our society for decades, with black and mixed-race men and women being pressured into styling their hair in a way that is considered more presentable and put together than their natural afro.
Hair extensions have come a long way since introduced to society by Egyptians. The innovation in the field has created a variety of products that are not just high-quality and more durable but more convenient and comfortable to wear, boosting the hair extensions market growth. And while donating hair is a common practice over the last few centuries, the increasing demand is forcing suppliers to source more human hair, or find (synthetic) alternatives.
Styling your new hair extensions for the first time can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you’ve had lots of lengths added. Investing in high-quality hair styling tools is worth it even if all you’re styling is your own hair, but especially important with hair extensions. Taking care of your new luscious locks will make your hair extensions last longer so make sure you’re blowing, waving, and curling with the best of them!
